John Jay College is one of 50 Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSI) recognized by the U.S. Department of State for its support of Fulbright exchange participants and promotion of Fulbright programs.
According to the Higher Education Act, an HSI is an accredited, degree-granting institution with at least 25% of its undergraduate students enrolled full-time who are Hispanic. Nearly 40% of John Jay students identify as Hispanic. HSIs serve approximately two-thirds of all Hispanic students in U.S. higher education.
John Jay invests in programs that support Hispanic students, including:
- ¡Adelante!, which introduces students to key Latinx issues and offers leadership development, career prep and financial support
- MBK Connect, which offers college prep, community-building, a stipend and MetroCard for men of color the summer before their first year at John Jay
- Ronald H. Brown Law School Prep Program, which provides faculty mentoring and graduate school preparation for lower-income and students who are the first in their families to attend college
- The Urban Male Initiative, which supports African American and Hispanic males with tutoring and mentoring
With a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and access, the Fulbright Program takes concerted steps to ensure that participants have successful and rewarding experiences before, during and after their exchanges. Click here to find the complete list of 2024 winners.
