Mickey Melendez is a Counseling psychologist who interested in the process of adjustment and retention to college for first generation BIPOC students and student athletes. He is also interested in the career development process for college students. His research agenda is a product of his experiences as a student of color and a former student athlete. He has published several papers exploring the complex dynamics of first generation college students of color, urban male college students, commuter college students, and student athletes. Moreover, He continues to participate in research exploring the impact of race, culture, and parental attachment on the adjustment to college and is currently involved in research exploring the factors impacting career development and engagement of Latino/a students.
