Bio

John Bandler is a lawyer, consultant, author, teacher, and speaker who helps individuals and organizations navigate today's risks. His areas of expertise include cybersecurity, cybercrime prevention and investigation, traditional crime, criminal justice, anti-money laundering, anti-fraud, law, criminal justice, and more.

As an adjunct at John Jay, he teaches about law, its practical application, and how it intersects with cyberspace, policing, and private security.

John runs a law firm and consulting practice focusing on cybersecurity, cybercrime investigations, traditional investigations, anti-money laundering, anti-fraud, and more. Before joining the private sector, John served in government for over twenty years, first as a state trooper in the New York State Police, gaining a broad array of policing experience and serving in one of the state's busiest stations where the State Police was the community's primary police agency.  He also served as a commissioned officer in the New York Army National Guard and U.S. Army Reserve. He attended law school at night and then served for thirteen years as a prosecutor at the New York County District Attorney's Office, where he investigated and prosecuted all manners of criminal conduct including street crime, financial fraud, identity theft, money laundering, cybercrime, and the criminal use of virtual currencies.  During the successful investigation and prosecution of an international cybercrime ring, which convicted U.S. based identity thieves as well as international cybercriminals, he gained unique insights into cybercrime, identity theft, payments, and the many investigation and proof issues that arise.

John holds a B.A. from Hamilton College, with a major in physics and a minor in computer science, and a J.D. from Pace University School of Law in 2002.

John is the author of three books, numerous articles, and is a frequent speaker.
