Bio

Fatma Najar is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at the Department of Math and Computer Science. She earned a PhD in Information and Systems Engineering from Concordia University (Canada), a PhD in Information and Communications Sciences and Technologies from Tunis National School of Engineering (Tunisia), a Master of Mathematics and Computer science from Paris Descartes University (France) and a Bachelor degree in Telecommunications engineering from Tunis National School of Engineering (Tunisia). She comes to John Jay after having served as a Lecturer of Computer science at Polytechnique Montreal (Canada) and a Data scientist at Videotron (Canada) after spending a few years as a researcher at Concordia University.

Dr. Najar is an interdisciplinary researcher with skills and experience in data science, machine learning, image processing, and natural language processing (NLP). She led collaborative projects and co-supervised master students resulting in 27 peer-reviewed publications, including 5 high-impact first-authored journal publications.

Dr. Najar received multiple awards from Concordia University (Accelerator awards, International Tuition Award of Excellence, Conference and Exposition Award). She received two awards from the Mitacs program which is a nonprofit national research organization that, in partnership with Canadian academia, private industry, and government, operates research and training programs in fields related to industrial and social innovation.
