Dale Barleben received his commerce and law degrees from the University of Alberta, studied public international law at Cambridge and practiced law in Alberta. He completed his doctoral work in British modernist literature and the law at the University of Toronto, where he held a Canada Graduate Scholarship, and where his thesis won the Woodhouse Prize for best dissertation in the Department of English for 2008. His book, Staging the Trials of Modernism: Testimony and the British Modern Literary Consciousness (2017) is available now. He has also written articles on legal language, writing, and British modernist authors. He is currently working on two new projects. In the first he explores the intersection of literature and law with British radio modernism and the BBC, and in the second, he addresses the interplay among literature and law, privacy rights and identity politics.
