Professor Anila Sabiko Duro is a full-time faculty in the Department of Law, Police Science and Criminal Justice Administration at John Jay.  She is a doctoral candidate in the Ph.D. Social Welfare Program at the Graduate Center, City University of New York. Her doctoral dissertation addresses police officers’ experiences responding to sex trafficking and she utilizes participatory action research methods and critical race theory to engage officers and survivors in this work. Professor Duro teaches research methods and capstone seminar courses and collaborates with students to critically think on addressing human trafficking and other contemporary criminal justice issues from all law enforcement perspectives.  She served as the Consultant and Research Evaluator for the Kings County District Attorney Office Brooklyn Human Trafficking Task Force for 5 years where she worked closely with law enforcement and service providers.   Her research interests include policing sex trafficking, intimate partner violence and victims/survivors of gender-based violence interaction with law enforcement.  She has held various professional position at John Jay College where she has worked closely with graduate, undergraduate and police programs and students.  She is a proud Albanian American who works closely with her community to support each other through education, research and advocacy work.  Professor Duro is also the Faculty Advisor for the Albanian Student Leadership Association (ASLA) at John Jay College.  She identifies as a cis gender straight immigrant white Muslim woman and uses she/her as pronouns.
