BS in Fire Science
The Fire Science major concentrates on analyzing fire vulnerabilities to reduce losses of life and property in the public and private sectors. It prepares students for careers as fire safety system designers, managers, consultants, and entrepreneurs.
You will:
- Identify and categorize the core mechanisms of fire growth and suppression
- Appraise and evaluate the built environment and its relationship to fire growth and suppression
- Develop and critique fire protection designs
- Organize and disseminate the policy and processes of fire safety and fire protection

Requirements
The Fire Science major requires one semester of physics, which fulfills the College’s general education requirements in the Flexible Core: Scientific World area. A student can choose from PHY 101 College Physics I (Liberal Arts Physics) or PHY 203 General Physics I
Prerequisites
MAT 241 is a prerequisite for PHY 203.
MAT 242 is a prerequisite or co–requisite for PHY 203. These math courses can fulfill the Required Core: Mathematics and Quantitative Reasoning area of the College’s general education requirements.

If you enrolled for the first time at the College in September 2020 or after that, you must complete the major in the form presented here. If you enroll prior to that date, you may choose the form shown here or the earlier version of the major. A copy of the earlier version may be obtained in the 2019-20 Undergraduate Bulletin.
